Help 183 girls start the school year strong!

As summer comes to a close, classrooms around the world are getting ready to welcome students back. In Guéoul, Senegal, we are preparing to open our doors to 183 bright, determined girls who are counting on us to help them succeed.

Friends of Guéoul is not a school. Senegal already has those! We are the cheerleaders and motivators for girls and their families to make education a priority. The stipend we provide offsets the home-based expenses families have when sending their daughter to school. But the stipend is just the start.

When we first established our scholarship program in 2005, it was only a stipend given to the poorest girls in the village as a motivator to her and her family to physically go to school every day. We discovered that that wasn’t enough, so we created the Nōs (Fun) CLUB! Through our after-school and summer programs, our boursieres receive ongoing educational support: small-group reinforcement of what they’ve learned in crowded classrooms, enrichment, tutoring, and high school diploma exam preparation.

Since the inception of our program, our participants are graduating at a rate of 38% compared to a rate of 1% in rural Senegal. THIS PROGRAM WORKS! To date, we have supported almost 300 girls and seen more than 100 finish high school, and many have gone on to college or career training. These young women will make a difference for themselves, their families, their communities, and their own future children.

Our goal is to raise $10,000, which will cover all of our expenses for the first three months of our school year. This campaign ends October 15 - help us make our goal EARLY, which will also MAKE OUR DAY!

• $25 backpack and school supplies for a year
• $100 covers a stipend for one girl for one year
• $350 keeps a girl in school for a year — supplies, stipend, and Nōs Club
• $2,500 Stipend and supplies for 20 girls
